Seven Samurai

Seven Samurai
These seven kanzashi flower clips are named for each of the seven samurai in this classic Japanese film, where they protect a village from bandits, teach the villagers to defend themselves, and find a new community in the process.

Kanzashi flowers are made using a Japanese technique of folding fabric, similar to origami. Each petal is crafted from a circle or square, then sewn to one another to build the completed piece. I use vintage kimono silk in my hair accessories to make them extra luxurious.
The fabrics used in these flowers are a variety of black and white patterns. It is firmly fastened to a large, plastic hair clip that can handle the thickest of upswept dos.

Seven Samurai are part of the Black & White collection, a specially curated line of headwear designed in honor of the 2025 Cincinnati Parks Foundationβs Hats Off! Luncheon and its black and white theme. Every piece has been named after a classic film from that era before color was part of the equation.
