MAKE A STRAW PLATTER FASCINATOR – WGGC SUMMER CAMP, Day 2

Join Abby from abbydid to learn how to make a modern piece of headwear fit for race day, the Met gala, or a royal wedding using a variety of millinery techniques.

Dates: Mon 7/20 – Tues 7/21, 1pm – 4pm each day. Sales end: Jul 13, 5pm. Ticket: $70 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Abby Langdon Materials fee:$30. Skills Needed: Enthusiastic beginners are welcome, basic hand-sewing experience is helpful . Class Limit: 6. Class Location: 1st floor. Minimum Age: 13 years old.

Day 1: Blocking the Straw Base

We will form the platter-shaped base for the hat by blocking sinamay straw.

Day 2: Mounting and Trimming

We will mount the platter onto a headband or other method of wearing it as a headpiece, then will move on to creating the decorative trimmings that will complete the look.

Abby will be in touch ahead of time to get color choices for straw, which she will order for the students, as well as get an idea for what kind of trimmings each person is looking for.

Minimum age for registration is 13 years old. A minor must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Supplies to Bring:

  • Reading glasses for close up work, apron if desired.

  • $30 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class.

  • snack and beverages if desired.
